Marmaris in Turkey has been named the best-value family destination based on the cost of 10 holiday essentials such as drinks, snacks, lunch, dinner and sun cream. Sunny Beach, Bulgaria, is second, while the Algarve in Portugal is third. Paphos in Cyprus is next, followed by Lanzarote. Unfortunately prices have risen in 13 of 16 European resorts so let’s get wise to this and seek out the best value destinations and times of year.

- travelling out of peak season.
